ASU Is the First in Russia to Graduate Professional Tutors
The defense of diploma projects in a new specialty has taken place at the Department of Pedagogics & Social Work of Astrakhan State University. The master program aiming to train counselors in accessibility and social pedagogical support of people with special needs was launched two years ago. The first group of graduates has proved that this specialty has real prospects.

The theme of inclusive education has been urgent for many countries for a long time. In other countries, there were already projects for kids with special needs to study just as their peers. New opportunities in the field of education require new specialists, so the role of a tutor – a mentor and supporter to arrange the right educational process – is becoming increasingly important.
Astrakhan State University has become the first Russian university to train such specialists; our graduates obtain two diplomas – the Russian diploma of ASU and the diploma of the INS HEA, the well-known institution in France dedicated to people with disabilities and special educational needs.
Professor Ravil Rezakov from Moscow chaired the commission that examined our MA students who have mastered this new specialization. He highly appreciated their proficiency in this topical area.
The current legislation stipulates equal rights for education and accessibility of educational environment. That is why the institution of tutorship is to be established in Astrakhan Region; the Regional Government is considering the issue to introduce this position officially. Specialists with a diploma of international level will be especially demanded. Now only Astrakhan State University trains such specialists in our region.
