Dr. Henry Liu, Honorary Advisor of International Federation of Translators, Meets Students of ASU
11.04.2018The theme of Dr. Liu’s lecture was why fashion designers and translators need each other; it became one of the initial events of the 2018 Caspian Week of Fashion. The distinguished guest met students and faculty of ASU, designers, models, interpreters, and translators in the conference room of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting & Translation (CHSIT).
Dr. Liu told about the globalization processes that are taking place in all the spheres, including design, fashion, and arts. Top brands and top companies set themselves the primary task to locate their products skillfully to penetrate the world market. The profession of a translator and interpreter is now more important than ever, whereas Astrakhan State University has all the necessary specialists and facilities to provide real professional training for future conference interpreters. Besides, Dr. Liu’s lecture was accompanied with conference interpreting provided by students of the CHSIT.
After the lecture, the audience could ask questions. Some students talked with the distinguished guest in his native language – English. They asked numerous questions; they were mainly interested in specifics of interpreting and translation, as well as in qualities that a skilled linguist ought to have.
Dr. Henry Liu highly appreciated organization of the event; he thanked ASU for its backing such large projects as the Caspian Week of Fashion. The guest advised that our students participated in our University’s life actively and used any opportunity to sustain their further development.
“Be creative, think how to excel, and find your style!” this was Dr. Liu’s message at the end of the meeting.
Let us remark that Dr. Elina Polyanskaya, First Vice Rector – Vice Rector for Strategic Development of Astrakhan State University, and Ms. Elena Rodnenko, a Cofounder of the Caspian Week of Fashion, have signed a cooperation agreement on April 11, 2018.
